Knowledge with a Hint of Arthropods

What's up everyone!
I've been getting in a bunch of new inverts lately and since the stress of school has deadened down a bit for the meantime, I should be able to write up at least a few posts on them. 🙂 However, what today's post is about is not new inverts, but rather possibly the only magazine in the world that is 100% dedicated to these fantastical creatures, "Invertebrates Magazine"!!!
I had heard about this magazine pretty much since I first entered the hobby, but for some reason never went any further with things. Well, a couple weeks ago, Peter Clausen of Bugsincyberspace.com held a couple contests on his Instagram page and the winning prize happened to be a copy of the latest IM issue going out to subscribers. Unfortunately I didn't end up winning a single one of those contests, but my interest was sparked and so I decided to go check out the headquarters for all things Orin McMonigle (editor and creator of "Invertebrate Magazine" and author of many amazing invertebrate books). I discovered that there were a number of back-issues up for grabs, each complete with a detailed description of what lied between the two covers. A few of them immediately caught my eye, so in the end, I ended up picking up four of said back-issues along with a one year subscription. 🙂
To my surprise, everything ended up arriving by the fifth day into the week, a good portion faster than I had expected and only a day longer than standard priority mail! After, of course, digging into most of them, I decided to take a photo of my new acquisitions.
Here it is!
Five issues of "Invertebrates Magazine"
If you are familiar with the magazine, you're able to tell that I got the most recent issue (center), the Dec. 2016 issue (left), the Apr. 2017 issue (far left), the Jun. 2012 issue (right), and finally the Dec. 2011 issue!
By now I've read through nearly everything and boy, was I not disappointed; besides the covers being a little less sturdy than the ACS publications (which is somewhat to be expected), I have nothing but good to say. 😀 Each and every magazine was chock full of useful and interesting info for the invertebrate keeper/cultivator and admittedly besides just the one or two articles that I bought most for, I found myself going through many more with equal excitement!
Out of all of them, I'd definitely have to say that the issue I enjoyed the most was the one from December 2012. It discussed one of my favorite cockroach and millipede species in the U.S hobby along with a member from an order of arachnids that I hope to dive into soon, Opiliones. 🙂
Overall, they were all that I expected and then some! I'd like to extent a species thanks to Orin for creating this magazine, not at all for personal gain, but strictly in the name of promoting this amazing hobby of ours and the organisms at the center of it, invertebrates!
***Before I close, I'd like to make an exciting announcement that the blog's Facebook page has now reached over 100 likes and in celebration, I'll be hosting a special giveaway!!! 😃 So if you're interested in receiving an invertebrate species completely free of charge, definitely keep an eye out on the Facebook page as I'll be posting details very, very soon!***
Hope you guys all enjoyed and until next time, goodbye!
